C-I Community Education Preschool Program Announces Changes for 2019-2020 School Year

MARCH 27, 2019 (CROSBY, MINN.) - In an effort to better accommodate busy family schedules and provide a consistent, well-rounded learning environment, Little Rangers Family Center, the preschool program at Cuyuna Range Elementary School (CRES), will be offering two new programs for the 2019-2020 school year: the Little Miners Extended Learning and Little Miners Care.

Currently three year-olds can only attend a half-day of school, requiring parents/guardians to pick up or drop off their child(ren) in the middle of the day. Starting on September 9th, the program will offer full-day Little Miner Extended Learning where parents can drop off their child(ren) in the morning and then pick them up when the school day ends. They will attend their half-day session of preschool and then a half-day session of Little Miners Extended Learning.

Preschoolers will also have the option to attend Little Miners Care, available before school from 6:45 to 8:00am and after school from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Ranger Care, designed for K-6 students, will still be available before and after school.

“As with any decision to change programming, we always keep the children’s best interests in mind,” said Tammy Novak, program director. “Given that so many parents and guardians work during the day and may find it challenging to pick-up/drop-off during this time, we hope this allows more children to participate in our preschool program.”

The Family Center’s Little Miners program is available for children who turn three on or before September 1st, while the Little Rangers program is available for children who are four or five years old. (Children must be four on or before September 1st.) The cost to attend a half-day of the Little Miners Extended Learning is $13.75 per child per day and the cost to attend a full day is $27.50 per child per day. The cost to participate in either Little Miner Care’s or Ranger Care’s before school session is $4 per child per day and the after school session is $9 per child per day. Scholarships, sliding fees, and payment plans are available to those who qualify. No one will be turned away for an inability to pay.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this to our families,” said Krista Olson, community education director who oversees the program. “With continued strains on our local child care centers and daycares, we saw this as a great opportunity to further support our community’s families.”

Any family that is interested in enrolling their child(ren) in any of the 2019-2020 preschool programs should attend the Little Rangers Family Center Preschool Enrollment Night on Tuesday, April 9th. Scheduled for 5:00 to 7:00pm, the event will be held in the lobby area of the Little Rangers Family Center at Cuyuna Range Elementary School. Enrollment will begin on this day and continue until all available spots are filled. Enrollment forms will be date and time stamped for placement of students into programs.
