We provide Early Childhood Screening to children living in or attending the Crosby-Ironton School District throughout the year. When your child turns 3, you may have them complete their screening. A screening is required within 90 days of starting our school readiness class if one has not already been done. Screening is free and completed in about an hour.
You will receive a packet of paperwork to get ready for your screening appointment. During the screening, our staff can assist you with any portions of the packet you were unable to complete on your own. Our screening provider will check how your child moves, plays, talks, sees, hears and behaves. A nurse will also measure your child’s height and weight as well as complete vision and hearing screenings. At the end of your appointment our screening provider will help your learn new ways you can best support your child.
Non-school providers who can provide comparable screenings include Head Start, Child and Teen Checkups, or a health care provider. Screening must take place between age 3 and kindergarten, or within the first 30 days of kindergarten.
Screening between the ages of 3 and 4 provides the best opportunity for any health or developmental concerns to be found early.
